What are Corporate Matching Gifts?

Matching Gift Programs are charitable giving programs sponsored by companies as an employee benefit. After an employee donates to Impact100 Westchester or pays their membership dues for the grant cycle, the employee submits a Matching Gift request to their employer and the company will make an additional donation directly to Impact100 Westchester.

What are the major elements of Matching Gift Programs?

• Match ratio: This refers to the amount of money a company will pay relative to the original donation made by the employee. A 1:1 ratio means that a company will donate the same amount. Match ratios can range from 1:1 to 3:1 depending on employer plan. 
  

Note: Impact100 Westchester gladly accepts Matching Gift donations of ANY size;  Matching Gifts do not have to be for the full amount of membership.

• Employee status: Often, retired employees, spouses or adult children of employees are also eligible for Matching Gifts, though sometimes at a reduced ratio.
• Type of charitable organization: Some companies will restrict their matching gift programs to benefit certain types of nonprofit organizations:

• Deadlines: It is important to check your company’s Matching Gifts policy regarding cutoff dates: some companies may accept matching gift requests until year end, while others may use Tax Day/April 15 as their cutoff date.

Note: Employees must file a Matching Gift request directly with their employer; Impact100 Westchester is unable to submit a match request on behalf of any employee, even if the employee is eligible for Matching Gift benefits.
